Kiln-formed Glass Art Glass and Recycled/Re-purposed Glass
Experience the joy of owning a beautiful glass object that you will treasure for years to come. Welcome to my studio! I am a fused glass artist that explores the translucent and reflective properties of glass using a kiln.
Fusing is the process of heating glass in a kiln to a very high temperature in order to bond pieces of glass together and change its shape or texture. This process is also referred to as warm glass, kiln-worked or kiln-formed glass. Several layers of glass may be used in the creation of a single item. The process begins with a design, glass is prepared, fired (heated) in a kiln, may be shaped with a grinder and saw and fired again. Pieces can be slumped over or into a mold to give it shape. Each time the glass is fired it is allowed to cool slowly to insure durability. All glass fused together must be of the same "coe" or coefficient of expansion or they will not fuse together successfully.
Dafne Martinez Obermeier is a fused glass artist that creates colorful functional and decorative glass art.
I use art glass, float glass, and like to recycle bottles and other glass such as old windows or panels of tempered glass.
